About Me

Heather Rose LeCompte is an award-winning contemporary folk artist, author, illustrator, and expressive arts workshop instructor based in Eugene, Oregon. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Cal Poly Humboldt, where she studied art alongside her primary focus in anthropology. Heather went on to earn a Master of Arts in Counseling, complemented by post-graduate training in expressive arts therapy. In addition to her creative pursuits, she is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and school counselor, specializing in working with young people through expressive arts therapy and social/emotional counseling. Coming from a lineage of talented women artists and designers, Heather proudly continues the creative legacy of her mother and maternal grandmother, both of whom were accomplished artists in their own right.

Artist Statement

My work as a contemporary folk artist is centered on the story of life and relationships—both with ourselves and others. I believe art has the power to heal, to bridge gaps, and to foster deeper emotional connections. Each piece I create is an invitation to pause, reflect, and engage with the layers of emotion and experience that define the human condition. Compassion is at the heart of my creative process. Through each work, I aim to evoke feelings of love, connection, understanding, and self-acceptance. I draw inspiration from nature, folklore, and personal experiences, using art as a language for exploring emotions that can be difficult to express with words alone. My mission is to create art that fosters an exchange of compassion between the piece and its viewer— and acts as both a mirror and a pathway to deeper understanding. I work with a variety of materials, including acrylics, ink, paper, found objects, and textiles. The juxtaposition of these materials reflects the idea that we, too, are made up of many layers—some smooth, others rough—yet all part of a cohesive whole.
